​​Summit Building Committee Meeting Minutes

Date: Dec 8th, 2014
Start Time: 7:00 pm
End Time: 7:53 pm
Old Business:
1. Proposal process SDCL 5-18B-44
          a.) Kurt provided a handout on 5-18B-44 for the group to review he said he contacted the Timberlake Superintendent and that we did have to open up the construction bids to the public.
2. Timber Lake School report.
          a.) Kurt contacted the Superintendent and he stated they would have hired a Construction Manager  @ Risk if they could do it all over again and they were happy with the Kyburz performance.
3.  Cost difference of the two sites.
          a.) Kurt talked to Dean about getting a 2nd drawing of the addition out by the Hwy, he is still waiting on the drawing. *Follow up
          b.) Tony wasn't present at the meeting; Corey Quale stated he spoke with Tony earlier in the day and that GF&P isn't sure who owns the first section of the land to the west of the school. He will hopefully hear back by Wednesday. *Follow up
New Business:
1. Architect
          a.) The group asked what the architect would need up front and recommended HKG as the architect? Kurt will find out tomorrow and will take it to the Summit School Board, Kurt will also discuss the 2 lots south of the school for parking in regards to purchasing.  
2. Two lots south of the school
          a.) Connie Brus said she would sell but hasn't determined a price yet.
          b.) Bjarie whom owns the 2nd lot would like $2000.00 for it
Other Business:
1. Beth provided handouts to the team on the Pro's and Con's of the construction being built on to the school and out by the highway. The group reviewed and decided that we could all review and give suggestions via email and then send it out to the community for review. It was agreed that the community needed to review and add additional input to the Pro's and Con's. Kurt will have Andrea send it out in her mass email and also have Dawn Wright post it on the facebook page.
2. Kurt asked if the group was ok with naming the project "Summit Community Learning and Wellness Center" the group agreed that it was a good choice for the expansion.
Next meeting scheduled on January 12th, we will need to meet sooner to get a proposal together for the public.

1. Kurt will set something up with Dean to discuss the 2nd building option.

Kurt gave a brief overview of the purpose of the meeting before introducing Steve Halvorsen, President of Kyburz-Carlson Construction.
Steve introduced the benefits of the Kyburz Construction and the difference between General Contractor and Project Manager. He also reviewed a handout with the group that he provided which included the following....
a.) History and metrics
b.) Delivery methods
c.) kcc/hcc team
d.) Experience
e.) Approach
f.) Provided estimate and drawing
Steve then addressed the group for questions. The group discussed options of the addition being built on to the school vs. the highway and asked if we could get a 2nd layout.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm
Follow ups for upcoming meeting:
1. Tony to contact GF&P on land west of the existing school
2. Kurt to contact Timberlake School Superintendent in regards to giving notification or public notice about construction.

January 26th-30th, 2015

Monday Lunch: Grilled cheese, potato or tomato soup, green beans, apple and milk

Tuesday Breakfast: Cereal or yogurt, toast, fruit/sauce, juice and milk

Tuesday Lunch: Chicken sandwich, ff’s, carrots, peaches and milk

Wednesday Breakfast: Cereal or parfait, toast, fruit/sauce, juice and milk

Wednesday Lunch: Hamburger gravy over potatoes, corn, dinner roll, pears and milk

Thursday Breakfast: Cereal or scrambled eggs, toast, fruit/sauce, juice and milk

Snow Week Dress up Days are: Monday-Ugly Sweater Day, Tuesday-Hick Day, Wednesday-Hawaiian Day, and Thursday-Hat Day.


Thursday, January 29th, Waubay After-Prom Committee will be hosting a BBQ Meal fundraiser starting at 5:00 pm in the Waubay School Commons.  This is during our BBB game in Waubay. 


For your information: Parents Right to Know:  The Federal Education Law put in place by former President Bush called “No Child Left Behind”, requires that all parents in a Title I school be notified and given opportunity to request information about the professional qualifications of classroom teachers instructing their child.  If you are interested in this information, you may send your request to Mr. Jensen who will provide a response. 


Monday January 26th- Snow Week Coronation at 6:30 pm at the hall.  Building proposal vote from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the hall. 


Tuesday January 27th – GBB and BBB Doubleheader in Summit with Estelline starting at 4:00 pm.  The schedule will be as follows:  Girls JV, Boys JV, Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity.  The past and present state tourney basketball players will be announced between games.  All past GBB and BBB players that were on teams that made it to the state tourney are invited to attend.  (BBB – 1990

 team) (GBB – 1983, 1984, 1985, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 teams)


Wednesday January 28th- The sophomores, along with Mr. Black, will be touring NTHS in Watertown.


Thursday January 29th- 7th & 8th BBB at Waubay at 5:00 pm.  JV and Varsity BBB at Waubay at 6:15 pm. 


Friday January 30th- Staff day.  Prom meeting at 10:45 am in Hoffman’s room.  History Club meeting at 11:00 am.  7th and 8th GBB at Summit with Waubay at 5:00 pm.  JV and Varsity GBB at Summit with Waubay at 6:15 pm.  Dance after the game. 


Saturday January 31st- BBB at Webster at 6:30 pm. 


Monday February 2nd- GBB at Summit with Clark/Willow Lake at 6:30 pm. 


Tuesday February 3rd- Circle of Smiles will be at the school.  7th and 8th GBB at Summit with Enemy Swim at 4:00 pm.  7th and 8th BBB at Summit with Enemy Swim at 5:00 pm. 


Wednesday February 4th- Circle of Smiles will be at the school.  Jump Rope for Heart for K-8th graders at 3:00 pm. 


Thursday February 5th- Circle of Smiles will be at the school.  3rd quarter midterm. 


Friday February 6th- “Dare to Share” for staff members.  GBB and BBB Doubleheader at GPL in Watertown, starting at 4:00 pm. 


Saturday February 7th- Parents Night - GBB and BBB Doubleheader in Summit with Northwestern, starting at 2:00 pm.
